A fresh coat of paint is the fastest thing you can do to a cabin that changes how it feels to walk into. It is also the job people most often regret hiring cheap, because bad prep does not show up on day one. It shows up in March when the knots have bled through the ceiling and the trim line has crawled.
Most of the interiors up here are wood, and wood fights you. Knots bleed tannin through latex and come back as brown rings weeks later, so they get spot-primed with a stain-blocking primer before anything else happens. Tongue-and-groove has a groove every six inches that will hold a run of paint if you load the brush the way you would on flat wall.
Whitewashing is its own thing again. The point is to brighten the room while the grain still reads through, and how much grain you keep depends on the dilution and how it is worked in. We do a sample board on your actual wood before we commit a room to it, because pine varies and the same mix reads differently on two cabins.
Filling, sanding, caulking the trim gaps, masking the beams, and covering the floors takes longer than rolling does. That ratio is normal and it is what you are actually paying for.
The other direction is to stop fighting the pine and give it something to stand against. One plane painted dark turns the wood and the stone into features instead of a wall of the same warm orange.
Dark is less forgiving than light. Every proud nail and sanding scratch shows in a satin sheen, and knots will bleed through black exactly as happily as through white, so every one gets spot-primed first. The full write-up is in our dark accent walls post.
Repainting cabinets is the cheapest way to change a kitchen or bath that is structurally fine and just dated. Doors and hardware come off, everything gets degreased and scuff-sanded, and a bonding primer goes down before color. Skipping the degrease is why so many DIY cabinet jobs peel at the handles inside a year: it is cooking oil and hand oil, not paint quality, that breaks the bond.

If the cabin is rented, the calendar is the constraint and we plan to it. Tell us the gaps up front and we will tell you honestly what can be painted and cured in the window you have. A rushed repaint that off-gasses into a guest stay is not worth the saved day, and a bad review costs more than the paint did.
For managers running more than a few cabins, it is usually cheaper and far less work to batch the interiors in the shoulder season than to chase them one turnover at a time.

We photograph the work as it goes and send it, so you are approving what is actually happening instead of taking our word for it.
