Trim is what makes a room read as finished instead of nearly done. It is also the first thing your eye catches when it is wrong: a gap at the miter, a baseboard that waves along the floor, casing that does not quite meet. Good trim work is invisible, and that is the whole point of it.
Most of the houses we work in up here have settled, and log and timber homes move with the seasons on top of that. A wall that is out of plumb by half an inch over eight feet will not take a factory miter, so the work is in the scribing and the fitting rather than the cutting. We scribe to the wall you actually have instead of the one the tape measure says you should.
That is also why we do not like caulking our way out of a bad joint. Caulk shrinks, cracks, and shows up again in a year. Fit it right and it stays right.
If you are having trim installed and walls painted in the same room, doing both with one crew saves a step and a seam. We handle the interior painting as well, so the trim gets primed, filled, and finished as part of the same job instead of waiting on a second trade.
