Decking

Deck Building & Repair in Blue Ridge & North Georgia

Up here the deck is the reason people bought the cabin. It is where the coffee happens, where guests end up at sunset, and where the mountain actually gets looked at. It also takes the worst of the weather, which is why so many of ours start as a repair call and turn into a rebuild.

New decks, rebuilds, and the repairs in between

We build new decks, replace failing ones, and fix the parts that give out first. A lot of the time an owner calls about a soft board or a railing that moves, and what is really happening is water has been sitting in the framing for a few seasons. We pull boards and look underneath before we quote anything, because replacing the surface over rotted joists just buys you a year.

What we handle:

  • New deck construction, including multi-level decks and walkways between them
  • Full rebuilds down to the framing, joists, and rim joist
  • Board replacement and re-decking over sound framing
  • Stairs, landings, and hillside steps
  • Railing repair and replacement
  • Cleaning and staining to finish the job

Why mountain decks fail early

North Georgia is hard on wood. Decks here sit under tree cover, stay damp longer after rain, and go through freeze and thaw cycles that open every crack a little wider. Add the shade and you get the mildew and algae that make boards slick by spring. A deck that would last comfortably in flat, sunny country needs more attention at this elevation.

That is why we finish nearly every deck job with a cleaning and a stain. The rebuild is the expensive part. The stain is what keeps you from doing it again.

A rebuild start to finish

Our Cherry Log deck rebuild shows the whole arc: faded gray boards and a weathered railing at the start, new rim joist and walkway framing in the middle, then rebuilt stairs and a finished stain across the porch and walkway. The full write-up is in our Cherry Log deck rebuild and staining post.
